Interview with Barbie, Transgendered Escort

By HOOK, Boston

HOOK: How long you been working?

Barbie: 8 months

HOOK: What kind of guys you meeting?

Barbie: High class business men. Mostly older men. That’s what I like. They are sweet, treat me with respect. They are honest, and I love the attention

HOOK: What’s a date normally like?

Barbie: Usually dinner, cocktails, and to the room...but not always. Sometimes, they are not available for dinner, so I may only go to their room.

HOOK: What was your favorite date... can you tell me about that?

Barbie: I enjoy it when a man is dressed classy and meets me for a nice dinner, clubbing or cocktails...and a great night of sex. Well-dressed means nice pants, jacket (sometimes a tie), but could be just a sports shirt. They smell great, well-groomed.

HOOK: Do you prefer the term session or date when talking about clients?

Barbie: Doesn’t matter. Either is fine.

HOOK: How do clients find you?

Barbie: On the internet, for now. Through AOL and a number of listing services. The majority come through chat rooms

HOOK: How do you approach them or do they approach you?

Barbie: They approach me. I don’t approach anyone nor do I vocalize my intent in the chat rooms.

HOOK: Can you give tips to other escorts about how you set up a session with a client online?

Barbie: Most either E-mail me or talk via Instant Messages (IMs) or Private Messages (PMs). They treat me with respect or I drop them. They usually ask amount and available times.

HOOK: Do you ask them any questions?

Barbie: I ask age and who they are, what they do, why they want me.

HOOK: Why does that matter to you (why they want you)?

Barbie: So I can evaluate them. It is about safety.

HOOK: Are there other precautions you take regarding safety?

Barbie: Only a talking screening process. Besides, I am a big girl.

HOOK: Can you explain the difference between transexual and transgender?

Barbie: Well, CD = CrossDresser. TV = transvestite or sexual crossdresser (sometimes Bisexual)
TS = transsexual meaning that they usually are looking to change genders. They are most likely on hormones. Transgendered or T-girls is a more generic term for all of the above.

HOOK: is it tough being in the industry as a TS?

Barbie: No, not really. I enjoy being female. It is a added bonus that men find me sexually attractive enough to pay.

HOOK: Any advice to young TS sexworkers just starting in the business?

Barbie: (laughs) They are lucky to have youth. Just keep your head up. Don’t cheapen yourself.
